Six people were Monday arraigned before Magistrate Abeke of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, charged with five counts of criminal offences.
The accused persons are Biyakie Camara, Foday Jammeh, Dodou Nyang, Yaya Camara, Dawda Bah and Malick Gibba.
They were charged with five counts of conspiracy to commit a felony, compounding a felony, destroying evidence, burglary and stealing.
They all denied the charges and were each granted court bail of D250, 000 with two Gambian sureties each, who must deposit their cards.
According to the particulars of offence on count one, on 19 March 2013, at Kairaba Avenue, in the Kanifing Municipality, the accused persons jointly conspired to commit a felony, to wit stealing.
Count two read that the 1st and 2nd accused persons received household properties stolen by the 3rd, 5th, and 6th accused persons, which they knew or have reasons to believe that such properties were stolen.
Count three disclosed that the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th accused persons willfully destroyed the cartons and booklets of stolen mobile phones, which they knew could be used as evidence against them in court.
The particulars of offence on count four stated that the 5th, 6th, 3rd and 2nd accused persons on the same day and place, between the hours of 4 and 5am, broke into the shop of one Sait Njie with intent to commit a felony, therein wit stealing.
Count five indicated that the 5th, 6th, 3rd and 2nd accused persons stole from the shop of the said Sait Njie, the following: thirty-six mobile phones valued at D157,600, three handbags valued at D2,600, two I-Pad valued at D21,500, cash of D15,000, and one box containing jewelleries valued at D19,500.
The case was adjourned till 23 April 2013.
