At
least 31 students have graduated at Vicky’s Hairdressing Salon and Skills
Center, after undergoing a year certificate and diploma training courses in
hairdressing and cosmetology, 23 of them graduated with certificate and 8 in
diploma.
Kayoele
Oloja said the skills training center has been committed in providing quality
skills designed to suit the needs of the people, providing careers to early
school leavers and caters for men, women, and youth.
He
urged the graduates to consider this as their first step in achieving great
success in the future.
Adama
Njie, chairman of the skill center’s board of directors and guest speaker urged
the graduates not to relent in their efforts as they still have more to
achieve.
He
called for more empowerment for women saying to move this country forward, more
support should be given to the women as they deserve more empowerment to
complement their efforts.
Victoria
Goddard Tamba, proprietress of the skills center said she left for the UK in
1987, to study hairdressing and cosmetology for two years, and when she returned
in 1989, she decided to establish the training center.
Mrs.
Tamba said the skills center has maintained a high standard of honesty with
customers and expansion over the years, adding that in October 2009, she
decided to transform the salon into a skills center and was licensed by NAQAA.
“The
center has been agreeable with the quality assurance standard of the National
Accreditation and Quality Assurance Authority and at this stage, we have
trained over 500 students,” She said.
She
stated that hairdressing within the curriculum is to enhance students to
develop their skills and become self-employed and independent, saying their
policy is based on the belief that lifelong learning is crucial to the
development of self-reliant individuals.
Cecilia
Goddard-Njie, who spoke about customer service excellence, said customer
loyalty is an important element for sustainable development and success in
business. She said that good service will help to achieve customer
satisfaction.
