3 Nigerians Charged

Three Nigerian nationals were recently arraigned before Magistrate Drammeh of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court, charged with prohibition of trafficking, conspiracy to defraud and obtaining money by false pretence.

Israel Oneli, Cadrict Mordi and David Ovimogunje, all pleaded not guilty of the charges and were each granted bail of D500,000 with two Gambian sureties with national ID cards.

The charge sheets on count one stated that between January and April 2010, in the Kanifing Municipality, the accused jointly recruited, received and harboured the following Nigerian nationalities from Nigeria to The Gambia: Serilie Joseph O., Akpata K. Cephes, Okebalama Ferdinad Chima and Obododlike Maduka Hyacinth.

Count two stated that by false pretence and with intent to defraud,the accused jointly conspired and obtained $600 from Serilie Joseph O., Akpata K. Cephas, Okebalama Ferdinad Chima and Obododike Maduka Hyacinth with the pretext of providing them with a hotel accommodation and feeding, knowing same to be false.

The particulars of offence on count three stated that the accused jointly obtained $600 from Serilie Joseph O., Akpata K. Cephas, Okebalama Ferdinad Chima and Obododike Maduka Hyacinth with the pretext of providing them with accommodation and feeding, knowing same to be false.

The case was adjourned until 19 April 2011.
