A 15/15 overs Cricket Tournament is being played to mark this year’s 22nd July Celebration at the the Independence Stadium mini field in Bakau.
Banjul Under 13 boys played the new breed Ebbeh Giwhiles in the tounament which kicked off on Saturday 11th October 2014 in Bakau.
Banjul Under 13 Boyswon the toss and set Ebbeh Gi to bat in the first innings. Ebbeh Gi batted and scored 42 runs for 10 wickets in 13.1 overs played. Muhammed Manneh batted for them and scored 11 runs, the highest. Sipiterr Gaye of Banjul bowled and took 5 wickets for 3 runs in 2 overs bowled.
Banjul to chase 45runs to win in the second innings was able to put up the scores in 5 overs played with 1 wicket down. Bai Modou Jack of Banjul Under 13 batted for Banjul and scored 25 runs with 5 fours played of his bat. Alh. Omar John bowled for Ebbeh Gi and took 1 wicket for 6 runs in 1 over bowled. Banjul Under 13 Boys won by10 wickets, and the man of the match was Bai Modou Jack with 25 runs.
Ebbeh Gi Girls also played Banjul Girls in the second match of the day. The toss was won by Ebbeh Gi and decided to field. Banjul Girls batted in the first innings and scored 64 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in 14.4 overs. Maimuna Sano batted for them and scored 12 runs, the highest; whiles Naffie Camara bowled for Ebbeh Gi and took 3 wickets for 12 runs in 3 overs bowled.
Ebbeh Gi Girls to chase 65 runs to win, but could only manage to score 25 runs all out in 9.3 overs played. Binta Touray batted for them and scored 7 runs, the highest for them; whiles Sosseh Sano bowled for Banjul Girls and took 3 wickets for 9 runs in 2 overs bowled. The man of the match was Maimuna Sano who batted and scored 12 runs for Banjul Girls.
Also on Sunday 12 October at the Independence Stadium Mini field Brikama Under 17 boysPlayed Banjul Under 17 Boys in a derby match. Brikama U17 batted first in the first innings and scored 63 runs for 10 wickets in 13 overs played.
Victor Mendy batted for them and scored 17 runs, the highest. Baboucarr Jaye of Banjul bowled and took 4 wickets for 18 runs in 4 overs bowled. Banjul to chase 64 runs to win in the second innings had an early fall of wickets, but Bubacarr Jallow was able to save them which brought Banjul back into the competition. The highest runs scored for Banjul was by Baboucarr Jallow - 35 runs not out with 2 sixes and 2 fours played of his bat.Alh. Sarjobowled for Brikama and took 3 wickets for 24 runs in 5 over bowled. Brikama U17 Boys was able to stop Banjul U17 Boys at 63 runs in 13 .4 overs which made it a tie-match.
Bakau Under 13 boys also played Ebbeh Gi Under 13 boysin the the second game of the day. Ebbeh Gi batted first and could ony score 25 runs all out in 7 overs played. Abdoulie Jammeh batted for them and scored 8 runs, the highest.
Dodou Senghor bowled for Bakau Under 13 and took 3 wickets for 4 runs in 2 overs bowled. Bakau Under 13 batted in the second innings and was able to put up this scores in 6 overs played for 4 wickets down.Filly Barry batted for them and scored 10 runs, the highest. Alh. Omar John bowled and took 2 wickets for 11 runs in 2 overs bowled. The man of the match was Dodou Senghor bowling, who took 3 wickets for 4 runs in 2 overs.
Ebbeh Gi group a new breed has been involved in the game lately, and also participated in the summer camp organised this year. The group is full of young and dymanic youths who have shown kin interest in the game. All thanks goes to the head organisers and the youths of this group for involving in developing cricket in The Gambia.
