21 arraigned for alleged damage to property

Twenty-one people were on Thursday arraigned at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, charged with willful damage to property and prohibition of conduct conducive to the breach of peace.

The accused persons are Sahiou Mboge, Ebrima Bah, Sulayman Danso, Modou Ceesay, Musa Jobe, Alpha Sabally, Kawsu Jobe, Amadou Nyabally, Yaya Bajo, Musa Suso, Modou L. Camara, Amat Sanyang, Amadou Camara, Fabakary Jaiteh, Musa Manneh, Modou Baye, Alpha Barry, Kekuta Nyockeh, Sellou Bah, Ismaila Ceesay and Modou Jallow.

They have all denied the charges and were each granted court bail of D1,000 with one Gambian surety each.

The case was then adjourned till 19 January 2012.

According to the particulars of offence on count one, the accused persons, on 16 December 2011, at Manjai Kunda, in the Kanifing Municipality, allegedly damaged the following items: a station TV set, refrigerator, station door and window glasses, electrical bulbs, ceiling fans, visitors chairs, station sign board, Ambulance’s windscreen of Bakau Police Station with registration number GPF 14 FP, by throwing stones and physically damaged the said properties thereby committed an offence.

Count two stated that, the accused persons, on the same day and at the same place, whilst in a public place, used abusive languages against the police, that they “are witches” and that they should “eat the corpse”  of one Alpha Oumar Jobe that was taken to the station and, thereby, committed an offence.
