Sixteen people (all Gambians) were yesterday arraigned at the Brikama Magistrates' Court, charged with an alleged offence of terrorism.
Alasan Thomas Jarju and fifteen others were charged under section 3(1) of the Anti Terrorism Act of 2002.
The particulars of the offence states that Alasan Thomas Jarju and his co-accused persons on or about 8th August 2006, at Dasilameh and diverse places, jointly conducted or engaged themselves in an unlawful act, which could have seriously destabilised or destroyed the foundation, political, constitution, economic and social structures of The Gambia.
They have pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The presiding magistrate, Pa Harry Jammeh remanded the accused persons in custody until the next adjourned date, 24th June 2009.
