POWER OVER ADVERSITY

Jul 23, 2025, 12:03 PM

Jesus weilded a lot of power over the evil works of the devil on numerous occasions during His earthly ministry which were known as 'miracles'. In essence,  He was fulfilling His mission which Apostle John summed up: "The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work." (1 John 3:8b)

When John the Baptist sent his disciples to enquire from Jesus whether He was the Messiah, He told them: "Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor." (Luke7: 22)

On one instance, Jesus and His disciples had boarded a boat to get to the other bank of the lake when all of a sudden a storm raged and His disciples - though seasoned fishermen - were afraid. They woke Him up. Jesus "got up and rebuked the wind and the waves and it was completely calm." (Matt. 8:26b) At this, "The men were amazed and asked, 'What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey Him.' (v27)

There is power in the name of Jesus then and today. "God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father." (Philippians 2:9-11)

Jesus is "our present help in time of trouble " (Ps 46:1) Call on Him today!
