Sona Jobarteh, Gambian international Kora pro and international musician, was last Thursday declared winner of the ‘Africa and the Middle East’ category of the Songlines Music Awards 2023.

The Gambian international’s Badinya Kumoo album produced by the African Guilt Records got the musician the award. The album was featured in the Songlines Magazine for the 'Best Album 2022'.

The album was nominated alongside three 3 others, including Soaring Wild Lands by Dawda Jobarteh, another Gambian musical superstar, which is produced by Sterns Music.

Dawda is a Kora player and composer who blends both traditional West African and modern music. Some consider his music Afro-jazz.
