She Awards Gambia unveils nominees for tomorrow’s award

She Awards Gambia, a women-led platform that recognizes and celebrates the outstanding efforts and achievements of Gambian women in various sectors, has unveiled its nominees ahead of its mega-award ceremony tomorrow, where deserving women and girls will be honoured.

The Awards is one of the biggest for Gambian women leaders, which seeks to inspire girls through role models, and the ceremony this year will be held in anticipation of the commemoration of International Women's Day, under the theme: ‘Celebrating Frontliners’ Against SGBV’.

The organisation opened nominations for this year’s edition in January, calling for the nomination of deserving women and girls who have shown outstanding brilliance in their areas and made positive impact on society through their work in the year in review, with focused on impact made in the area of sexual and gender-based violence.

Thus, nominations were submitted, which were analysed by an independent committee on the criteria and categories, and a final list of nominees for each category has, thus, been published.

Nafy Aidara, Hannah K. Coker and Dr. Santang Nabaneh have been unveiled as the nominees for The Florence Mahoney Award for Women in Academia category; Dr. Naffie Ceesay and Dr. Awa Jah for Health Practitioner of The Year Award category, and Aji Rohey Bah, Mariatou J. Newlands and . Mariama Singateh have been nominated for Legal Practitioner of The Year Award category.

Others include Judith A. Foon, Fanta K. Jawara and Fatou manneh and Mariama P.K. Mendy for the Entrepreneur of The Year Award category; Ndey Fatou Drammeh, Kadiatou Keita, Kodou J Gaye, Fatoumatta Jammeh, Sohna Huja Jeng and Kumbale Goode for the STEM Award category, and Isatou Keita –GPU, Aminata E. Sanyang –GRTS and Aji Jocob Khan -West Coast Radio for the Media Personality of The Year Award nominees

Moreover, Aminata Alice Yajoh, Fanta Ceesay, Aji Ndumbeh Jobe, Kaddy Samateh and Lawkadinch S. Gomez have been successfully nominated for the Youth Excellence Award category; Priscilla Yagu Ciesay, Binta Werkman, Fatou Baldeh and Sirra Ndow for Activist Of The Year Award category, and Raki Jallow, Rohey P Fofana and Ya Mallen Jagne for The Emerging Writer of the Year Award category

Finally, Tala Camara, Penda Bah, Fatoumata N Cham and Fatoumatta L Kassama have been nominated for The Sise Sawaneh Award category, whilst A Long Day and Zahra’s Pain have been nominated for the SheAwards 2023 SGBV Film of Impact Award category.
