The GPAY 2024 -2028 draws inspiration from the 2022 NAYCONF Resolutions, highlighting each thematic area with current status, how their challenges to be overcome and proposed actions to be undertaken by both duty-bearers and right- holders.
During the 2022 NAYCONF, a progress report on the GPAY was presented, and a key recommendation was made to assess the implementation rate of the GPAY 2018-2019 and develop a new one for five years.
To this end, UNFPA is collaborating with the National Youth Council (NYC), and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) has hired a consultant to develop a new GPAY that responds to significant changes in national and global contexts and priorities.
The goal of the validation was to create conditions and mechanisms that promote better opportunities for young people in The Gambia.
The critical event brought together a diverse group of participants, including representatives from civil society organizations, youth-led groups, and government representatives, each playing an integral role in shaping a road map that addresses the unique challenges facing Gambian youth. We collectively reviewed and refined strategies focusing on education, health, employment, and participation in decision-making.
The GPAY framework aims to empower young people to contribute positively to their communities and to The Gambia’s development journey. This program reflects our collective commitment to a sustainable, youth-focused future, aligning with national and international goals for youth empowerment.

Meanwhile, ahead of the highly anticipated 2024 National Youth Conference and Festival (NAYCONF), the National Organizing Committee continues its preparatory meetings.
The meeting was a crucial step in planning an unforgettable event that will bring together young people from across The Gambia to discuss pressing issues and share innovative ideas.
The meeting was also organised to build connections, forge new friendships and celebrate vibrant culture and talents.
Kanifing Municipal Youth Committee Local Organizing Committee had an inspiring meeting with the National Organizing Committee for the upcoming National Youth Conference and Festival.
The organising committee is thrilled to collaborate on this incredible event that brings together young voices from across the country.
This year’s theme focuses on “Attaining the Recovery Focus on National Development Plan 2023-2027”.
