Waza United Karate Club hold Annual Training Course

Waza United Karate Club at the weekend held its Annual National training in Yundum.

The two-day event brought together karate practitioners from various clubs across the country,

The training was aimed at reinforcing technical development within the discipline.

The training was led by Ibrahima Gomez, a seasoned black belt and an active member of the Senegalese national team.

His participation added a valuable cross-border dimension to the course, offering Gambian students and instructors’ rare access to high-level instruction and international experience.

Speaking at the event, the Technical Director of Waza United Karate Club, Sansei Pateh Jobe, stated that the training is held annually as part of the club’s commitment to advancing the knowledge and skills of its students.

“This course was designed to refresh and sharpen fundamental technique. We focused on the basic rules of karate, kata, and essential methods for building stability, strength, and focus,’’ Jobe said.

President of Shotokan Karate International (SKI) - Gambia Chapter, Sansei Mohammed Danso, praised the initiative, saying the course was a vital component of karate development in the country.

Danso emphasised the importance of unity among athletes and clubs, noting that karate continues to serve as a bridge between practitioners across national and institutional lines.

He commended Sansei Gomez for his selfless service and generosity in sharing his knowledge and experience with karatekas in The Gambia.

Danso encouraged clubs and athletes to remain open to collaboration, and learn, noting that progress in martial arts is achieved not in isolation but through shared discipline and commitment

The event was attended by several prominent figures in the Gambian karate community such as Sansei Alfusainey Trawally of Busumbala Karate Club and his team of instructors for their contribution to the practical sessions and group works.

Sansei Nfansu Fatty of Waza United Karate Club and his team of trainers played an active role throughout the activities.

The course was marked by a strong spirit of cooperation, mutual respect and technical rigour.

Participants of the training expressed appreciation for the opportunity to train collectively and gain knowledge from the expertise of senior practitioners in The Gambia and beyond.
