GDSA solicits support to participate in West Africa Deaf Football, Athletic Championships

The Gambia Deaf Scorpions Association (GDSA) is soliciting support from philanthropists, individuals to participate in the forthcoming West Africa Deaf Football Tournament and third edition of Athletic Championship to be staged in Nigeria.

The Gambia Deaf Sports Association and their athletes are set to represent the country at the 13th Edition of the West Africa Deaf Football Tournament.

The championship is expected to start on 18 August 2025 and finish on 31st August 2025.
The Deaf Scorpions were champions in a similar tournament in 2021 held in Banjul.

The Deaf Scorpions are ready to bring home the gold again.

To make this dream a reality, the Deaf team are soliciting support from the general public to participate in the championship.

A budget of 5 million dalasi is required to cover all expenses for the 27 selected athletes.

The Gambia Deaf Scorpions Association is calling on the Gambia government, businesses such as QCELL, Africell, Comium, stakeholders and generous individuals to support them.

The championship is organised by West Africa Deaf Sports Union in conjunction with Nigeria Deaf Sports Federation with economic support from ECOWAS Youth and Sports Development Center (EYSDC).

The championship will be played at the Abiola National Stadium Complex, Abuja, FCT, and Nigeria.

The deadline for registration is 30 July 2025.

The event is not only about football as athletic events have been approved alongside Football tournament to feature at the event.

The event will also help to prepare each country's representatives to participate at the forthcoming Tokyo, Japan Deaf Olympics in November, 2025.

The third edition of West Africa Deaf Sprint and Relays Championship will run from 27th to 28th August 2025 during the rest day of the football tournament.

The events to be competed include 100m, 200m, 400m, 4X100m, 4X400m (Men & Female) and Mixed Relays.

According to the organisers of the champions, cash, trophies and medals will be awarded to the winners of the championship supported by ECOWAS.
