Bijin FC and Laydala FC were in action on Friday at the Jokadu Bakang Football Field in front of multitudes of fans and spectators in which Bijin FC stunned Laydala by two goals to 1.
Bijin FC commenced their title fight by beating Laydala in the competition as they put up a fierce fight to frustrate their opponents’ prospects which materialised as they open their scoring in just 3 minutes of play when Lamin Kassama set up Nfamara Sillah whose first touch took him wide of goal before dispatching a lovely left footed effort that beat the goal keeper.
Bijin had total control of the game, exhibiting beautiful football which tilted in their favour as the first half ended one-nil.
On resumption, Laydala became more determined and top up their game by pushing for an equaliser which paid dividend. They leveled matters in the 67th minute after poor goal keeping from Musa Jarju which was converted by Nfamara Fadera from the six yard box.
Bijin remained dominant in the remaining minutes, creating chances and prayed for miracle to go home with the maximum three points and sure miracle came in the 89th minute when substitute Ebrima Joof’s thunderous strike sent the Bijin fans into while jubilations as the match climaxed into a 2-1 score line after the final whistle.
Lamin Seckan, Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Samakung Youth Nawetan Organising Committee explained that the overriding goal of the tripartite nawetan is to foster unity in the area and to promote grassroots football as well as select a team to compete in North Bank Regional Football Competition.
He said they named the football teams after historical places the villages. Meanwhile, the Sunday fixture between Old Hands and Dumbaloto ended goalless.
