Minister for Youth and Sports, Bakary Y. Badjie, has called for collective efforts to combat fight doping in sports.

Minister Badjie was speaking during the African inter-ministerial meeting held under the theme ‘enhancing Africa’s sports governance, fostering inter-regional cooperation and convergence for sport values, ethics and integrity’ at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre in Bijilo on Tuesday.

He stated that doping in sports continued to wreak havoc in the modern day sporting world.

Minister Badjie further stated that the inter-regional ministerial meeting on Anti Doping in sports serves as a key milestone in the history of sports in The Gambia.

He pointed out the meeting reinforces Gambia government commitment to promote ethical sports both in terms of practice, management and governance in the country.

“This meeting gave unique opportunity to engage dialogue in addressing the challenges faced by the effects of doping in sports.

This is a menace not just in the African continent but all over the world.

It’s a global phenomenon that has hindered the development of sports and the advancement of our athletes who are coerced into using drugs as a way of enhancing their strength.

“In acknowledgement of our shared vision and common goal to strengthen sports governance is heavily dependent on the ability to take action against doping,” Minister Badjie said.
