The Gambia is set to make its third appearance in one of the world’s biggest youth football festivals called the Norway Cup. Gvambia’s participation is made possible under the leadership of Goodwill Ambassador for Sports, Tijan Jaiteh.

In an interview with The Point Sports, Ambassador Jaiteh stated that 20 Gambian talented youth players under the age of 16 years will represent the country, adding that the players were selected from across the country by coaches with support from the Gambia Football Federation.

The tournament runs from 29th July to 5th August 2023 in Oslo.

We will also participate in a training camp after the completion of the tournament in another city in Norway,” he said.

“This team belongs to The Gambia and not Tijan Jaiteh or the coaches training them. They are going to represent the country outside and sing the country’s national anthem.”

According to him, two coaches and himself as the head of delegation will travel with the players.

“It is a great opportunities for young footballers to be recognised and scouted. I am very happy to be associated with this. This is in line with my mandate as ambassador- to promote and develop Gambian sports on the global stage.”

He thanked President Barrow for his trust and support. He also thanked the minister of Youth and Sports Bakary Badjie for his support in these endeavours.
