Playing in Senegal wasn’t a factor in my side’s goalless draw against Gabon- Gaffer Sarr

Head Coach of The Gambia local based team, Alhagie Sarr, has stressed that playing in Thies, Senegal, wasn’t a factor in his side’s goalless stalemate against Gabon in the 2025 Total Energies Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.

Coach Sarr was speaking to the GFF Media shortly after his side’s goalless draw against the Gabonese in their first-leg match played at the Stade Lat Dior in Thies, Senegal on Friday night

He added that they weren’t distracted by the lack of playing in Banjul, noting that they were particularly prepared for the encounter.

"We knew it wasn’t going to be played in Banjul.

We are used to playing our home matches away,’’ Coach Sarr explained.

Coach Sarr stated that the team will return home and work on tactics ahead of the return-leg in Franceville.

Asked about the mentality he put into the boys for the return-leg, gaffer Sarr noted that despite the hostility of playing in Francevill, the Scorpions are prepared mentally to go into that encounter with a positive mindset.

"We have given the team the feedback and prepared them because we know the return-leg will be different but the team is ready for that," Coach Sarr said.

Gabon will host The Gambia in the return-leg fixture on 8th March 2025 in Franceville.

The winner will play Algeria for a place in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda 2025.
