Jun 4, 2026, 10:02 AM

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has renewed the contract of The Gambia senior national team coach Jonathan McKinstry for an additional two years, effective 1st June, 2026.

The renewal is done in consultations with the Gambia Football Federation (GFF).

The decision reflects the Government's confidence in Coach McKinstry's leadership and commitment to the continued growth and development of Gambian football.

Since taking charge of the national team in June 2024, Mckinstry has played a significant role in nurturing young talent and strengthen the foundations necessary for sustained success at the international level.

The Government of The Gambia remains resolute in its commitment to the development of football in The Gambia and recognises the importance of continuity in the technical leadership of the national team - a position mutually shared between the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the GFF and the squad.

Extending Coach McKinstry's tenure will enable him to continue the important work of building a strong team capable of achieving greater success for The Gambia.

"We are particularly excited about the prospects of The Gambia senior national team return to play competitive matches on home soil, a development that will further inspire our players and supporters alike.

We also remain optimistic in working with the GFF, stakeholders and partners in supporting the team's ambitions of securing qualification for the AFCON 2027," Ministry of Youth and Sports said.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Bakary Y. Badjie and his staff extended their best wishes to Coach Jonathan McKinstry and his technical team.

Badjie and staff are looking forward to a successful partnership that brings pride, unity, and footballing excellence to The Gambia.
