A letter addressed to the president of the association dated 9th May 2024 stated that: “I am pleased to confirm that the ITF Board of Directors has decided to lift the suspension of The Gambia Lawn Tennis Association in accordance with Article 5 of the ITF Constitution, with all rights of membership restored with immediate effect.
It is my pleasure to welcome you back to active membership of the ITF.”
According to the letter, Tennis development is at the heart of the ITF Strategy, ITF2024.
The ITF therefore encouraged the president and his team to contact their ITF Development Officer, Amine Ben Makhlouf, to discuss how the ITF Development Strategy can support their efforts to develop and grow the sport in The Gambia.
“We look forward to working with you to develop, promote and grow the sport we all love,” it concluded.
Meanwhile, the Gambia Lawn Tennis Association said with its return to active membership of the ITF, the development of tennis in The Gambia remains at the core of the association’s strategic plan.
“The association continues to have a cordial relationship with the Ministry of Youths and Sports, National Sports Council (NSC), Gambia National Olympic Council (GNOC), International Tennis Federation (ITF), Confederation of African Tennis (CAT), and all other related associations and groups,” it added.
In another development, Ms. Sally Njie has been appointed as the new Secretary General of the Gambia Lawn Tennis Association.
The Executive Committee members co-opted her to the GLTA Executive Committee as the new General Secretary of the association.
