Guaranty Trust Bank (GTCO) are set to play their second successive inter-banks championship final after defeating Zenith Bank 1-0 during their semifinal game played at the KG5 Mini Stadium in Banjul.

Yatma Touray’s 5th minute goal helped GTBank progress to their second consecutive final of the tournament.

GTBank won last year’s tournament after defeating FBN Bank in the final.

“I am very much happy that we booked a place in the final for the second time in a row,” Ousainou Njie, head coach of GTBank FC said.

Coach Njie said it is always a tough game each time they play against Zenith Bank.

“Zenith Bank always have a very good side. It is now becoming a difficult and a rivalry game each time we play against Zenith Bank because I also have a formidable side.”

According to him, they overcome their opponents through their tactics, saying Zenith Bank were far better than his side on the ball.

Antony Moore, assistant coach of Zenith Bank, expressed disappointment with the final result, adding that this is the second consecutive time that GTBank knocked them out at the same stage (semifinal) of the tournament.

“We were the better side but luck was not on our side. They capitalized on one of their few chances created to score in the first half,” he stated.

According to him, lack of teamwork also led to their elimination at the semifinal stage, adding that his players were not active on training during the buildup to the game.

Meanwhile, Guaranty Trust Bank (GTCO) will now play against the Sahelo-Saharienne Bank for Investment and Commerce (BSIC Bank) in the final on Saturday 18th February 2023 at the KG5 Mini-Stadium in Banjul.
