Irish coach, Jonathan Mckinstry, is set to guide The Gambia senior national team for the remainder of their 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Mckinstry has been appointed new coach of the Scorpions on a two-year contract after the sudden resignation of Tom Saintfiet following The Gambia’s early exit from the 2023 Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations.

The Gambia sit second-place from bottom in Group F of the global biggest football showpiece qualifiers without a point after losing their two opening matches.

The Gambia lost to Burundi 3-2 in their opening group clash before slipping to Ivory Coast 2-0 in their second group match.

Coach Mckinstry will do all efforts to qualify The Gambia to their first-ever World Cup since the inception of the global biggest football fiesta in 1930.

Meanwhile, Coach Jonathan Mckinstry will also guide The Gambia to the 2025 Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Scorpions qualified for the continent’s bi-annual biggest football fiesta twice in 2021 and 2023 respectively.
