Gabon dent Gambia’s World Cup qualification aspirations

Gabon has dented The Gambia’s 2026 World Cup qualifications ambitions.

The Scorpions lost to Gabon 3-2 in their fourth Group F fixture of the global biggest football showpiece qualifier played at the Stade Franceville on Tuesday.

Budding Yankuba Minteh gave The Gambia the lead in the 33rd minute of the match from an excellent header.

Allevinah levelled the scores for Gabon in the 52nd minute of the match.

Prolific Pierre Emeric Aubameyang scored the second goal for Gabon in the 70th minute.

Bouanga netted the third goal for the Gabonese in the 71st minute of the encounter to dash The Gambia’s hopes of coming back to their feet.

The Gambia reacted quickly for an equaliser and created goal scoring opportunities.

Combative midfielder Ebou Adams pulled back one goal for The Gambia in the 76th minute of the match, which eventually proved to be a consolation for the Scorpions.

 The victory earns Gabon second-place in Group F of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with 9 points after four group outings.

The Gambia still occupy second-place from bottom in Group F of the global biggest football showpiece qualifiers with only 3 points in four group matches.

The Scorpions now require to win their remaining six group matches to fancy their dreams of qualifying for their first-ever World Cup.
