According to the Fajara Club, there was a transition in their leadership following the resignation of the club`s chairman in August 2023, leading to their apparent non-responsiveness to see the project is implemented. This subsequently resulted in its shelving by the GGA.
According to the Fajara Club, “the Night Driving Range project, envisioned in collaboration with the GGA and Com Afrique under the auspices of The R&A, perfectly aligns with our goals.”
It promises to enhance our facilities with safe lighting for underprivileged school children, create employment opportunities for local youth, and offer recreational activities for both golfers and non-golfers alike.
“The club is enthusiastic about the project's potential to serve as a model for community-oriented sports initiatives.”
The club, however, reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the initiative and its broader mission of fostering youth engagement and community development through golf.
“Fajara Club is renowned for its rich tradition of promoting golf and other sports in The Gambia, offering world-class facilities and a welcoming environment for both members and guests.
Our mission extends beyond sports, embracing social responsibility and community development as core values,” stated the Fajara Club.
When contacted for comment on the response from Fajara Club, Mr. Ebrima Jawara, President of GGA, expressed GGA`s satisfaction with the maturity shown by the club`s leadership, which he said is an indication that the club is reviewing its internal processes for better stakeholder engagement.
