“We are a young team and are happy to be here. Even though we are among the lowest-ranked team here, my team is ready for it. The experience of the last AFCON was amazing and we enjoyed it,” he said.
Knowing that the Gambia are a young team who are ready to play in the AFCON tournament for the second time, the Belgian tactician said they are not afraid of anyone in the tournament, noting that last time The Gambia won against Mauritania and Guinea and drew against Mali.
“We are ready to play against the defending champions,” he said optimistically, making reference to the bygone days: “The Gambia had won twice against Senegal and it was before I was born.”
For his part, Scorpions’ captain Omar Colley said football is all about pressure, adding that even though Senegal are the defending champions, they are ready to play against them.
“We have great respect for Senegal and we are ready to play and win because this is football,” he added.
Captain Colley further said The Gambia have not won against Senegal for a long time hence they are ready to defend the colours of the country and attain victory.
“My mother is from Senegal and we are ready to play and win against them,” he reiterated determinedly. “We want to win the game and despite playing in a hot temperature, we are ready for the task ahead.”
