Coach Mckinstry was speaking to journalists during question and answer session organized by Sports Journalists of The Gambia (SJAG) at a local Restaurant in Fajara on Monday.
He expressed his disappointment why The Gambia is still playing their home matches away, adding that players and technical staff are all desperate to play their homes at the Independence Stadium.
“I was at the Independence Stadium, I walked around the grass. I can tell you that the stadium is playable,’’ Coach Mckinstry explained.
Coach Mckinstry revealed that the grounds they played against Tunisia and Madagascar are not better than Independence Stadium pitch.
Coach Mckinstry stated that the Independence Staduim pitch is far better than the pitch that they played against Gabon in June 2024.
He further stated that no single player of his team walked around those pitches and complained about the pitch.
Coach Mckinstry pointed out the Independence Stadium pitch is the same standard as multiple of pitches that are certified across Africa and Europe.
“When I walked around the Independence Stadium pitch I feel they denied us from playing home matches there.” He added that the stadium is 100 percent ready to host international level football matches.
“The Independence Stadium is ready but it is not in our hands, it is in hands of CAF to certificate it,” Coach Mckinstry said.
