As part of efforts towards to develop football in the community of Tallinding, some inhabitants of the community are organising a football tournament named: ‘Tallinding Buffer Zone Football Competition’.

The football tournament is organised to serve as a ‘nawetan’ football competition for teams in Tallinding.

It has been over two years since the Serrekunda East Zone (a zone where Tallinding teams play their annual nawetan competitions) last played their nawetan season football due to the pandemic and most recently due to the uncompleted renovation of the mini-stadium.

According to the organisers of the Tallinding Buffer Zone Football competition, the new tournament is organised to serve as a nawetan football tournament for teams in Tallinding.

“This is the time when the Serrekunda East Park is always full to capacity as a result of the nawetan tournament. And also for two seasons now there has been no nawetan tournament in the zone due to the covid-19 pandemic and also the uncompleted renovation of the park,” said Seedou Sanneh, Public Relations Officer for Tallinding Buffer Zone Football competition.

He added that one of the reasons for organising the tournament is to engage youth of Tallinding, noting that most of their youth heavily rely on football.

According to him, the tournament seeks to unify youth of Tallinding, adding that it will also give room to players that have not played divisional football.

Mr. Sanneh noted that they are targeting 16 teams with registration open for D3, 500 per team.

Babou Jobe, member of the organising committee, said organising such a tournament will help youth in the community, especially for those who take football as their passion.

He added that the tournament will also help ease pressure encountered by some youth due to lack of participation in the tournament.

“The lack of nawetan football for two years has left many youth frustrated especially those that heavily rely on nawetan football,” he said.
