Banjul Sports Committee holds meeting with teams as 'nawettan' season looms

Aug 11, 2025, 11:15 AM

Banjul Sports Committee recently convened a meeting with representatives from twenty (20) nawettan teams, as  the 2025 Banjul nawettan edges closer.

The committee and teams discussed plans for the annual Banjul rainy season biggest football fuesta.

After a lengthy and constructive discussion, stakeholders unanimously agreed that while the KG5 Mini Stadium is currently unfit to host the competition, the alternative venue (Gambia High School Field) would also be unsuitable due to the absence of a perimeter fence, which has proven to be an effective measure in curbing violence in grassroots football.

The delegates were also enlightened on the progress of the work to be done at KG5, ranging from the lobbying efforts by the Committee, to the signing ceremony and the official handing over of the site to the contractor.

Regrettably, this means that there will be no nawettan football in Banjul for the 2025 season.

However, the Committee’s mandate extends far beyond football. In this regard, a variety of sporting activities will be organized at the beach while KG5 undergoes renovations.

Banjul Sports Committee thanked all teams, players and supporters for their understanding and continued commitment to the development of sports in Banjul.
