Baluwo has signed a partnership deal with The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) to sponsor the country’s First Division League Male tournament with $25,000, equivalent to D1,549,025.

The four-year partnership deal was signed at a local hotel in Kololi on Friday.

“This is a historic moment in our quest to develop football in the country. This is historic in the sense that it is the first of its kind that The Gambia Football Federation’s current leadership supports our league. We all know the importance of partnership in sports, especially in football. Unfortunately, in this country, it is still a problem not only in football but all sports,” said GFF president Lamin Kaba Bajo.

President Bajo added that the partnership with Baluwo would reduce the financial burden on the Federation.

“The funding of the leagues is a heavy burden on the federation. It is not easy to run the First and Second Division Leagues for both male and female,” Mr. Bajo said.

According to him, the greater part of the fund from the partnership will go to clubs and increment of league prize money.

The GFF President said since 2014 or even beyond, the national leagues - First, Second and Third Division Leagues were sponsored by the federation.

President Bajo said with more sponsorship and partnership, they are aiming for more than 5 million dalasis as prize money.

Lamin Jaiteh, operations supervision of Baluwo for West Africa, said they believed the four-year partnership deal with GFF will help improve Gambian football.

“Football unites the nation and represents a way for Gambian Diaspora to be connected to their relatives back home. Baluwo is proud to be the bridge between them and their families. We hope our partnership with GFF will help players to play better football,” Mr. Jaiteh said.

Willy Abraham, the hairman of GFF Marketing Committee, said: “Every club in the First Division League Male tournament will get D50, 000, adding that the rest will be added to the prize of the winners of the league.
