ECOWAS MISSION IN THE GAMBIA COMMISERATES WITH PRESIDENT BARROW ON THE DEATH OF INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE

Mar 16, 2021, 1:32 PM

The ECOWAS Permanent Mission in the Gambia received with shock and deep sadness the sudden demise of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Alhaji Mamour Jobe on Saturday 13th March 2021. His demise is unexpected and at the same time devastating not only to the President of the Republic but also to the Gambian Police Force and indeed the entire Gambia as a nation.

The late Alhaji Mamour Jobe selflessly served his nation meritoriously, professionally and with great honour. It is therefore not surprising the number of tributes pouring in from all walks of life, cutting across all the political and social divide. He was described as a calm and quiet police officer who was also firm, bringing a number of reforms and discipline into the Gambian Police Force. It is noteworthy to mention that the ECOWAS Mission in the Gambia (ECOMIG) had a good working relation with the Gambia Police Force as a result of the sterling leadership of the late IGP who encouraged the two forces to collaborate as much as possible to bring the needed peace and security to the entire Gambia. We will definitely miss him.

On behalf of the President of the ECOWAS Commission and the ECOWAS Mission in the Gambia, I wish to most sincerely convey my condolences to the President of the Republic of Gambia, the Gambia Police Force and family of the deceased. Please note that the demise is above human comprehension. It is therefore my prayer that God grants the President of the Republic of Gambia, the Police Force and all bereaved family members the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

Once again, please accept our sincerest condolence.

Signed

Her Excellency VABAH GAYFLOR

Head of ECOWAS Mission in the Gambia
