The Young Writers Association of The Gambia is a non-profit body championing young writers' welfare and furthering writing and literature in The Gambia.
Juwara, an English Language major at the University of The Gambia and a qualified school teacher, has written a substantial number of poems and short stories published nationally and internationally. He has also authored around four books, namely; ‘Before The Rapine' by Canadian publisher Ukiyoto and 'Mr. Corrupt's Son’.
Reacting to being elected as the president of YWAG, he said: “It is with a great sense of joy and determination that I write this message as the new President of the Young Writers' Association of The Gambia (YWAG). YWAG has been my home, and today, I feel fulfilled, energized, and ready to assume the leadership mantle of this great association.”
He continued: “While it was not an easy decision to arrive at, I am inspired by the desire to contribute to the greater good of Gambian literature, particularly for the younger generation. With the support and assurance of Hon. Ansu Jatta and others, I embrace this role and pray for the Almighty's infinite support and guidance."
Juwara took the opportunity to remind everyone that the Young Writers' Association of The Gambia is open to all young Gambians, irrespective of whether one is a writer or not, and that it is here to enhance literature among the younger generation.
