Damia Security Solutions provides comprehensive security solutions to individuals and businesses. The company was registered last year and recently began full operation. It is located at 103 Kombo Sillah Drive, Churchill’s Town.
In an interview with this medium, Adama explained her reason for the initiative.
“The journey began with a recognition of the security challenges faced by many in our communities. I realized that there was a need for a locally-focused, reliable security solutions, and that inspired me to take the entrepreneurial path to fill this gap,” said Chief Executive Officer Drammeh.
“I used to engage in buying and selling of fashion clothing, shoes, bags, among others. But my focus shifted when I recognized the security concerns raised by fellow Gambians and I felt compelled to play my part in making our nation a safer place. This realization led me to pivot my entrepreneurial efforts towards complementing government's efforts in improving safety in The Gambia. My experience working with diverse teams across Europe, Asia, and Africa have shaped my broad view of different cultures and fuelled my dedication to this cause,” she added.
“We work closely with our clients to understand their specific needs and design systems uniquely tailored to our environment. By focusing on innovation, reliability, and collaboration, we aim to make our community a safer place,” she further said.
Being the first young female to start up a security company in the country, the young entrepreneur faces challenges.
“This unique position has come with its fair share of challenges which include the lack of readily available information,” she explained, adding that researching specific areas to make decisions can be daunting as the necessary information is often almost non-existent online. She also said that when trying to obtain the information from certain departments, the process can be very time-consuming and filled with delays.
“This not only creates problems but also adds complexity to decision-making. Additionally, the high costs back home have presented significant financial challenges in pursuing my entrepreneurial endeavours,” she explained.
Miss Drammeh noted that entrepreneurship allowed her to take control of her vision and bring something unique and valuable to her community. “It is the path that enabled me to directly impact lives, innovate, and contribute to national development.”
She encouraged her fellow young women to believe in themselves and their ability to make a difference.
She emphasised the importance of collaboration and mentorship and therefore called for collaboration and support from Gambians. “Connecting with others in your field, seeking guidance, and being open to new ideas can significantly enhance one’s journey. “Together, we can achieve more and contribute to a better world”.
