One Rohey Jarju, a resident of Banjulinding, appeared last Thursday before Magistrate Sambou of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court for assault causing grievous bodily harm to another woman.

According to the particulars of the offense, on 14 October 2024, at Banjulinding in the West Coast Region, Rohey Jarju unlawfully assaulted one Sarata Badjie, by slicing her face with a razor blade, causing grievous bodily harm.

When the charges were read to the accused in a language she understood, she pleaded guilty.

Count two stated that the accused unlawfully destroyed the glass door of Sarata Badjie, valued at two hundred and fifty dalasis (D250). She also pleaded guilty to this charge.

Prosecutor L. Gomez sought an adjournment on the grounds that the victim, Sarata Badjie, was still receiving medical attention and that the medical report, which would determine the extent of the injury, had not yet been provided.

The prosecution further urged the court not to grant bail to the accused for her own safety.

The presiding Magistrate accepted the prosecutor’s application and ruled that the accused be remanded in custody.

The case was adjourned until 24 October 2024.
