Western Caucus meets ahead of advocacy mission to Cape Verde

Members of the West African Caucus of the Pan-African Parliament recently held an inception meeting to plan and determine their objectives ahead of their advocacy mission to Cape Verde.

The delegation was led by Third Vice President, Hon. Lucìa Dos Passos, supported by Hon. Alhagie Mbow, Member for Upper Saloum, and Chairperson of the Caucus.  

Further, the West African Regional Caucus of Africa’s Premier legislative body recently embarked on its advocacy missions in Cape Verde and Côte d’Ivoire.  

The missions were aimed at advocating for the ratification of African Union Legal instruments that promote good governance, respect for human rights, justice and the rule of law in Africa.

These include the Protocol to the Constitutive Act of the African Union Relating to the Pan-African Parliament also known as the Malabo Protocol. 

In her brief overview on behalf of the Caucus, Lúcia Passos, third Vice President of the continental Legislators, gave an overview of the mission and its intended objectives. 

She briefed the Speaker on the protocols signed and ratified by Cape Verde as well as those still requiring action from government. 

Rt. Hon. Correia also thanked the Pan-African Parliament delegation for the opportunity to learn about the African Union legal instruments and their role.  

He pledged the support of the national legislative body to the ratification and domestication of the outstanding instruments, and wished the mission well as it commences its work in the country.  

It would be recalled that the West African Caucus is on an advocacy drive to engage relevant authorities.
