The student’s union participation at this event held from 21st to 25th of October at the Metzy Hotel at Senegambia, came at the invitation of Gambia Participates and other civil society bodies.
Stakeholders who participated in the event hailed from the legal sector, the security, governance and other areas for their crucial role in the constitution building process.
At the event, the students side by side with stakeholders reviewed, scrutinised and comparatively examined the provisions of both drafts, leading to the drafting of a position paper that articulates the important considerations by stakeholders to ensure there is a constitution that embodies the very aspirations of the masses.
Further, the position paper is meant for submission to the legislature at the National Assembly in Banjul.
Additionally, the Students Union expressed through its information and communication arm that recognising it as an important pillar in both constitutional and national development, their presence at this dialogue is both valuable and indispensable.
Their participation, they added, would also help further this important undertaking, which includes the advocacy segment, while expressing its commitment to upholding the voices of ‘our students and contributing to the broader national discourse.’
"This endeavour fortifies the Union’s role in civic engagement and also fosters an enduring legacy of constitutional progress for The Gambia. While we look forward to playing our role in nation-building through this process, we wish to thank Gambia Participates for this accorded opportunity."
