Tallinding Councillor testifies over fraud at Council

The Councilor for Tallinding South Ward recently appeared before the Local Government Commission of Inquiry, where he talked about fraud and suppression by revenue collectors at the council. However, these issues are contained in audit reports.

Appearing before commissioners, Karamo Ceesay said the people found wanting were asked to repay with their salaries, while those whose salaries had expired were not renewed.

Quizzed about the steps the Council took to recover huge cash suppressed by the collectors, the witness maintained that he could not give a clear answer as he put it, they were being deducted from their salaries.

On the audit reports by the National Audit Office (NAO), he said the management of the council did not take steps to act on the audit reports because of the distractions at the Council and the redeployment of the CEOS.
