At the event, Professor Herbert Robinson, Vice Chancellor, who doubles as Head of Departments of the different units at the University of The Gambia, advised new intakes to be conscious of their mission in the school.
“You should show utmost discipline and seriousness throughout your journey. You have been chosen among many that applied, therefore, the best is expected from you.” he said.
Also speaking, Kemo Fatty, president of the UTGSU, reminded new intakes that their parents or sponsors have put a lot in paying their tuition fees.
“Your guardians and sponsors go through so much to make sure you are here today. So you should therefore make sure you do what is expected and learn so that you can impact the society and country at large.”
He equally urged them to engage in extra-curricular activities as the school’s have various sub clubs. This, he added, would enable them to join efforts to boost the school’s competence.
He informed the new students that UTG students union is always there to fight for their welfare and they should always reach out to them whenever they face challenges.
Dr. Momodou Lamin Drammeh, Registrar at UTG, urged the new intakes to follow due process for registration to be a full fresh student of the university.
He also said students can choose to defer 'if they feel' they can’t make it in a semester.
He also reminded them of the rules and regulations governing the institution to make their stay fruitful.
Ndey Jatta, a fresh student at the School of Journalism and Digital Media, said she expects to gain the best of lectures and materials that will enhance her knowledge in the media and be ready for the newsrooms.
