The University of The Gambia (UTG) recently rolled out the red carpet to welcome its newest members into the academic family in a grand celebration marked by enthusiasm and anticipation, setting the stage for the incoming students as they embark on a potentially thrilling academic journey.

The welcome ceremony was attended in numbers by not only the 883 freshmen and women, who emerged successful out of 1,388 applicants, and members of the varied school faculties but loved ones and well-wishers of these promising youngsters who hope to empower and equip themselves with the right education to drive change.

As he conveyed delight in welcoming the new students, Vice Chancellor Prof Herbert Robinson said: "We welcome each of you to the University of The Gambia. Brace yourselves for a journey filled with growth, challenges and game-changing experiences."

Prof. Robinson emphasised that UTG is more than just a campus; it is a vibrant community that fosters curiosity, connections and lifelong friendships. He highlighted the significance of the orientation ceremony as the official introduction to the academic voyage guided by the brilliant minds steering the UTG ship.

Dr. Momodou Lamin Tarro, UTG registrar urged the freshmen and women to immerse themselves in extracurricular activities, build connections with their peers and forge bonds that will set UTG apart from other universities. Dr. Tarro emphasised the commitment to a five-plus-five approach, aiming to rock the academic scene and nurture strong character.

The Director of Student Affairs reassured the students of UTG's unwavering support, saying: "We have got your back. From Student Affairs to our rock star faculty, we have set the stage for your success. Now, it is over to you. Show up to class, hit those assignments out of the park, and spill the tea if you need help – we are all about that to support life."
