The donation was part of the SSHFC’s Corporate Social Responsibility in giving back to those in need in the holy month of Ramadan and the feast.
The event was organised by SSHFC at its head office in Banjul.
Presenting the gesture, the managing director of SSHFC, Saloum Malang, expressed sincere gratitude and appreciation to their bedridden pensioners during this holy month of Ramadan.
“It is our firm belief that during this sacred time, no member of our community should go without the basic necessities of life,” he said. “Therefore, we have meticulously curated a selection of essential items including bags of rice, sugar, onions, potatoes, cooking oil, and tins of tomatoes to alleviate the burden on our bedridden pensioners for Ramadan and Koriteh.”
The SSHFC boss said that the gesture was not merely an act of charity, but a testament to our “unwavering commitment to the welfare and well being of our pensioners, who have dedicated their lives to the service of our nation.”
“It is a small token of appreciation for their invaluable contributions and a reminder that they are cherished members of our society.”
“I am also delighted to highlight that this is not the first time the corporation has extended such generosity. We have a long-standing tradition of supporting our community, whether it be through similar initiatives in the past sponsoring medical facilities like
Ndemban Clinic with essential equipment, or backing our youth in endeavours such as the recent victory of the Gambia under 16 football team in Norway, supporting Gambia participation in Afcon 2023 and Renovation work at the independent stadium in Bakau just to mention a few.”
“As we embark on this noble endeavour, let us remember the spirit of compassion and solidarity that defines the essence of Ramadan. Let us come together as a community to uplift and support those in need. We wish our members and stakeholders a pleasant koriteh in advance,” he concluded.
For his part, Mr. Alphonse Mendy, a pensioner, acknowledged and appreciated the gesture, while describing it as “very timely” considering the holy month of Ramadan.
He seized the opportunity to thank the management of the SSHFC.
