The new National Youth Council is now headed by Satang Dumbuya, as new chairperson for the next two years.
The Council seeks to strengthen regional structures, amplify youth voices, and promote innovation across the country by laying a strong foundation for the future.
At the event, Minister Badjie spoke of his commitment to transparency and devotion to the advancement of young people, so as to ensure the institution remains vibrant and credible.
He thus applauded all local and international partners for their invaluable support to the Council.
“The National Youth Council remains a vital bridge between government and the youth.”
He said that over the years, the NYC has played a crucial role in ensuring that the voices of the youth are not only heard, but acted upon from the local councils to the corridors of national policymaking.
Badjie pointed out that the ministry recognises the NYC as key in the implementation of the National Youth Policy (2019-2028), which he said, prioritises skills development, entrepreneurship, health, education, sports, and civic engagement.
He urged the newly inaugurated members of the Council to deliver to expectations by serving as the voice of the youths and working with regional structures, local councils, and youth networks to ensure that every young person feels represented.
Satang Dumbuya, Chairperson of the 14th National Youth Council assured of her commitment to serving the Council to the best of her ability.
“I challenge the entire Council members to serve the young people better and influence policies and programs and urge partners like ActionAid to collectively work with young people.” she urged.
She noted that no meaningful development can be achieved without the active involvement and full participation of young people.
