Speaker Jatta was elected president of CPA during the recently concluded CPA Africa Region Annual General Meeting (AGM) which was held in Arusha, Tanzania.
The election of Hon. Jatta, officials said is in recognition of his leadership qualities and his commitment to fostering parliamentary democracy on the African continent.
The CPA promotes democratic governance, good parliamentary practices, and inter-parliamentary cooperation among member states.
The Africa Region of the CPA, they added, is instrumental in addressing key challenges facing parliaments across the continent.
Under Jatta’s leadership, they continued, it is expected that he continues driving initiatives that strengthen legislative institutions and governance.
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Jatta expressed deep gratitude to the CPA Africa delegates for the confidence they have placed in him, while reaffirming his dedication to upholding the CPA’s values in promoting democratic principles across the region.
He added: “I am humbled by this honour and the trust placed in me by my fellow delegates. I pledge to work diligently with all member parliaments to enhance cooperation and to ensure that we continue to promote strong, transparent, and accountable legislative institutions across Africa.”
In a related development, it was also confirmed that the National Assembly of The Gambia will have the privilege of hosting the next AGM of the CPA Africa Region in 2025.
