In a recent interview with The Point, the Kerr Serigne-born artist, who is grinding the hardest and giving his best while anticipating to clutch his spot in GamMusic, explains how and why he ventured into music and also detailed the inspiration behind his latest song.
“What inspired me into music is that music is something I love, something that I like. I can say that it is truly part of my spirit. I also like performance; I like to perform a lot, and that is one of my greatest inspirations for music.”
The young artist began singing in 2019 but did not get the opportunity to record in a professional studio until 2021, when he recorded his first song.
“From 2019 to 2020, I used to hold a bluetooth speaker on one side with the beat (rhythm) playing on the phone on the other side and then record my song,” he explained.
He told this medium that it is the encouragement and endorsement of his talent by people around him – his family, friends and acquaintances - that gave him the courage and determination to venture into music. “It is all because of them,” he said.
“They told me to keep it up, and that things shall get better,” he repeated.
Speaking about his most recent song titled ‘Beachside’, which is available on Audio Mack and other popular streaming platforms, he said: “It was one early morning when I went to the beachside, and while I was merely listening to a beat, the idea struck my mind. Then I started doing some freestyle and singing, ‘I am on the beach side; I am having my own vibes; I am living my own life, while the niggers wanna see suicide.”
The artist added that this was how he went on to construct and develop the entire song.
Speaking on his signing by VisionProd Music - new music label whose vision is to give young up-and-coming grassroots artistes the opportunity to realise their dreams - he said he had seen a lot of changes.
“Since I was signed to VisionProd Music, I normally have free video shootings and free recording. All that I can say about VisionProd is that it is a great music label.”
In 2021, when I recorded my first song called Flick Around, we were three; we were a gang. The gang did not suit my needs that much because it was somehow slow. So I told them that I was going to be a solo artist. When I was there, we released ‘Flick Around’ and then ‘Chono Bi’. Then after I became solo, I dropped my first single ‘Love for the Paper’ and I still continue to look for ways to strengthen and further develop my craft as an artist.
As a youngster and one of the youngest artistes in the industry, he hopes to build a prosperous and successful career through the dissemination of “true and genuine message” to listeners and earn to live a decent life.
He concluded by urging Gambians and music lovers to support by listening to his music through VisionProd Music and Double 9 Official on social media handles and streaming platforms. Those who also wish to lend a helping hand can link up with VisionProd on its social media platforms.
