He said The Gambia is a signatory to the convention since 1992 and has been attending conferences of parties on annual basis.
The Senior Climate Change Officer made this statement recently during an interview with The Point. He said the convention is to ensure that countries go and negotiate on their national priorities so that there would be consensus to meet global goals on adaptation.
“The framework is a guiding process to have an overview of how we join hands in achieving the Paris Agreement,” Kinteh explained.
He said there was an agreement when world leaders met in Paris, adding that part of the discussion was to reduce global emission to 1.5 degrees.
“We are also committed to addressing global greenhouse, by ensuring that whatever we have in the Paris Agreement also reflects in our NDCs based on national capacity.”
Mr Kinteh added that, The Gambia is expected to submit a report to UNFCC on how far the country has gone in addressing issues of climate change.
“The UNFCC is responsible for climate change issues and our target is to meet some of the global targets. The Gambia has made significant improvement through the establishment of the secretariat to further enhance and strengthen our commitment towards meeting the Paris Agreement and global emission targets,” he also said.
