The celebration, which has become an annual traditional for AECE, was held in a form of march past by Nursery School children, teachers, administrators, scouts and led by Army band.
The event, which attracted Nursery school children from various schools across all regions, also witnessed a statement by a young pupil, who posed as president of the republic, Adama Barrow.
In his address, Alieu Saidy, a student from Grace Bilingual Nursery School, who posed as president of the Republic of The Gambia, reminded that preserving the nation, for what it is worth, requires all to cherish and safeguard the country’s vibrant culture, social structures, relationships and identity and virtues that distinguishes ‘us as a people.’
He stated that to succeed in this national endeavour, the government, the Constitution and Laws that regulate behaviour, the institutions that provide services and the territorial boundaries that define our land surface must be at the heart of whatever we do.
Without that, he said the country’s resources would be wasted, something ‘we must collectively work to address.’
“The core of our development is the economy, which lies at the centre of three important features; namely: our resources - human and material; our productivity in scope and intensity; and thirdly, our level of creativity to initiate positive change, execute appropriate action, and utilise goods and services appropriately and maximally.”
These, he said, cannot be attained in the country without the active and collective engagement of its citizens.
The infant president also advised his colleague pupils to take their education seriously in view of the fact that they are the future leaders.
“We thank all parents, teachers for dressing our children, who are looking so smart in celebration our 60th year of independence.”
