Bakusa Dukureh

Gambia Labour Party (GLP) leader Bakusa Dukureh has pledged to prioritise healthcare, education, agriculture and youth employment if elected president, as the newly registered party staged its first mega rally in Basse Allunhareh ahead of the December 5, 2026 presidential election.

Addressing supporters at the rally, Dukureh said his decision to enter politics was driven by a desire to bring meaningful change to The Gambia, rather than simply registering a political party and joining the country’s political landscape.

He said the GLP’s vision was to build a better Gambia free from corruption, where the interests of citizens would be prioritised through transparency, accountability and equal opportunities across regions and political affiliations.

Dukureh thanked the people of Allunhareh and surrounding communities for the reception accorded to him and his delegation, describing the turnout as a sign of public interest in the party.

He also expressed appreciation to community leaders for their support, urging residents to remain engaged and prepare to participate in the country’s electoral process.

The GLP leader said he had promised to hold his first mega rally in Allunhareh after receiving the party’s nomination certificate from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), adding that the gathering fulfilled that commitment.

Outlining his proposed development agenda, Dukureh pledged to construct more hospitals and schools, invest in agriculture and create employment opportunities for young people.

He expressed confidence in his ability to deliver on these commitments if elected, saying he had the necessary connections to help translate his development plans into reality.

However, the proposed commitments outlined at the rally were not accompanied by details on projected costs, funding sources or implementation timelines.

The rally marks an important step in the GLP’s efforts to introduce its political agenda to voters and build support in Basse Allunhareh and neighbouring communities.

As the December 5 election approaches, the party joins other political actors seeking to convince voters that their proposed policies can address the country’s development challenges.
