Basiru Jaye, who was speaking in a recent interview with The Point, revealed that this dialogue will allow varied viewpoints to be heard, encourage civic engagement, and help resolve issues peacefully as well as foster consensus on critical topics, enhance democratic principles, and promote social cohesiveness.
"Overall, a strong national dialogue is required for a healthy and inclusive society."
The national political dialogue, he added, doesn't only stop on February 12th, but called on the citizens to attend on February 16th in order to contribute, refine and adopt the declarations from thematic working groups which will be referred as" Declarations of the National Dialogue 2024".
He, however, reminded that regardless of the president’s principal job, it is critical to recognise that the burden of advancement does not fall entirely on their shoulders.
“Each of us may help shape our country's future. We are all stakeholders in the development process, and only through our combined efforts will we be able to accomplish long-term change and prosperity. Whether we are farmers tilling the soil, teachers guiding young minds, healthcare workers saving lives, entrepreneurs driving economic progress, or students eager to learn and innovate, we all contribute to the fabric of our community.”
He reminded of the power of their collective strength and that they can only harness it through communication, collaboration and mutual respect to overcome obstacles and grasp opportunities.
"Let us remember that this development is more than just infrastructure or economic growth; it is about enhancing the quality of life for all Gambians by providing access to education, healthcare, clean water, and job opportunities. It is about creating a society in which justice, equality, and human rights are respected."
