FAO launches, validates CPF 2024-2028

In their  efforts to enhance agricultural development, the Food and Agriculture Organisation last Wednesday launched and validated its Country Programming Framework(CPF) for the period  2024 to 2028.

The launch and validation was held at the Sir Dawuda Jawara Conference Hall in Bijilo.

The 2024- 2028 CPF, that aligns with national and global guidance document, was formulated after an extensive consultation with stakeholders and a comprehensive review of their current 2018- 2021 Country Programming Framework (CPF).

This new framework also outlines key priority areas identified by the Government of The Gambia to guide FAO's partnership and support in the next four year period.

According to officials, the event marks a significant milestone in their collaborative efforts  to enhance food security, promote sustainable agriculture, and address key challenges in the Agri food and natural resource sectors.

At the event, Demba Sabally, minister for Agriculture, said the CPF will modernise agriculture, enhance food self-sufficiency, and foster economic growth, aligning closely with the country’s overarching goal of achieving sustained economic growth, food security, and poverty reduction.

He acknowledged the importance of CPF in enhancing engagement and transforming Agri food systems.

Also speaking, Ndey Rose Sarr, UNFPA representative on behalf of the United Nations Resident Coordinator, commended FAO's commitment to inclusive and resilient agricultural practices, emphasising the importance of empowering women and youth in the sector.

"The CPF outlines specific targets and objectives to address critical challenges facing agriculture, fisheries, and the environment, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals such as zero hunger, gender equality, and climate action." she said.

Musa Drammeh, Minister for Fisheries, Water Resources and National Assembly Matters, underscored the contribution of the fisheries sector in the country's Gross Domestic Product, employment, food security and nutrition.
