Nafa beneficiaries: WB, GoTG NAFA expansion project is breathtaking

As the World Bank and The Gambia government cleared the path for the expansion of the Nafa cash transfer project with an additional 15,000 extremely poor households in the remaining 16 districts, beneficiaries in this phase have applauded the partners, describing the initiative as awesome.

Recently, journalists met and engaged with beneficiaries in various districts in the North Bank, Central River and Upper River Regions and those engaged applauded the positive and swift response by Nafa in this new phase.

For beneficiaries, this new expansion project is in a right path to alleviating poverty and building resilience, particularly in rural communities, where extremely poor households encounter challenges.

Spearheaded by the National Nutrition Agency (NaNA) in collaboration with the Department of Community Development (DCD) and the Directorate of Social Welfare (DSW), this new initiative forms part of the Resilience, Inclusion, Skills, and Equity (RISE) project.

The programme jointly funded by the World Bank and the Government of The Gambia, is a key sub-component of the RISE Project, designed to alleviate poverty and empower extreme poor households through regular cash transfers and social and behavioral change communication.

It currently operates in the country’s 20 poorest districts and is being gradually scaled up nationwide. As enlistment continues, implementing partners have so far registered which includes 113 beneficiaries at Sareh Alpha village and 55 beneficiaries at Perai Tenda village in Tumana District, Upper River Region, 52 beneficiaries from Missira village in Jarra West, Central River Region (CRR).

Sainabou Cham of Jallow Kunda Ramatoulie village, Central River Region-North, the project couldn’t have come at a better time than now, further applauding the qqproject implementing and funding partners for the initiative.

Alagie Gaye, a Community Development Officer for CRR-North underscored the significant role they play as community development officers.

Ebrima Jarsey, a social welfare regional officer for Central River Region-North and South, revealed that part of their role is to get all required information of beneficiaries.

This, he said, includes either, biometric birth certificate, National Identity Cards, Passport, Driver’s License or Voters’ Card for easy identification and registration process.
