The Manjai Kunda Village Management Development Committee (MKV MDC) on Friday took sole ownership and management of Manjai/Father Gough Sports Complex.

This move aims to ensure the complex is managed and developed for the benefit of the community.

Dominic Mendy, Assistant Secretary General for Manjai Kunda Village Management Development Committee, recalled some of the challenges the sport complex faces amid vandalism and disputes over management.

"The MKVMDC's declaration seeks to address these issues and promote sports development in the area," he added.

The facility, he added, will be supervised by the Manjai Sports Association, under the oversight of the community's recognized structures.

"Existing bookings and payments made through the Manjai Sports Association (MSA) are now null and void," he stated.

The move aims, he added, to ensure effective management and development of the sports complex to promote sports activities and community engagement and to address past challenges, such as vandalism and disputes.

Thus, he on behalf of the committee assured that the community is looking forward to seeing the complex thrive under new management.

"The new protocol institutions, including the Gambia Football Federation, need approval from the MKV MDC sports committee to use the facility is aimed to ensure community control and benefit from the sports complex," he explained.

He emphasised that this move clarifies management and use of the facility, prioritising community interests.

"Schools in Manjai Kunda will still have free access to the sports complex for inter-house sports. This ensures local students can keep using the facility for their activities," he said.

The sports complex, which includes a standard grass football field, dressing rooms, and other facilities, was inaugurated in 2020 with support from the Father Gough Sports Foundation and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
