The delegation led by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Service, Pateh Jah was at the said ministry to sensitise them about the usage of the Biometric Time Attendance and among others.
At the event, he said that as civil servants, their ultimate objective is to deliver service to the citizenry and thus share key information regarding what is required of them (civil servants) especially with regards to timely reporting to their workplace to deliver quality services.
He said his Ministry’s unannounced visit will not only be in the morning time, but can be anytime of the working days.
“As civil servants, you are expected to report to work on time and be punctual. If you failed to be at work on time, you cannot deliver and as a result, it will have negative impact on the development of this country”.
PS Jah revealed that the time attendance machines are yet to be linked to government payroll system, saying ‘as his Ministry is moving on, it will be linked to the payroll, where ‘if any civil servant absent for 20 days in a single month, his or her salary will be stopped’ automatically by the system.
According to him, if one is late for three consecutive working days, he or she will suffer a day’s salary deduction.
He said that they are currently in the transitional phase of the Biometric time attendance device usage system, from manual to electronic, so they are yet to link it to the payroll.
The Permanent Secretary (PS) of the Civil Service Reform and Planning Unit (CSRPU) under the Ministry of Public Service (MoPS), Sheriff Jallow said time attendance is a new reform initiative undertaking by his Ministry.
PS Jallow explained that the attendance would serve as a complete indication of performance and at least, an indicator for punctuality, that was the reason MoPS created Performance Management Unit at PMO.
Thus, he called on Gender Ministry staff to be focused and redouble their efforts in order to serve the people well as expected.
“That is the ultimate objective of our Ministry, to ensure that whatever services we are to provide to our people, we need to provide to them on time and regularly. We know you are doing good, but we are also encouraging you to continue with that spirit,” PS Jallow added.
DPS Finance and Administration at the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare, said Biometric Time attendance is here to keep the record of attendance of civil servants within their various sectors.
