Several dignitaries, including the Chairperson of the Kombo East District Youth Committee, the Alkalo of Tubakuta, Amadou Camara Regional Youth Council representative youth, Kombo East District Youth Parliament, Bakary K. Badjie, were also in attendance.
Welcoming the gathering, Masanneh Bojang, Alkalo of Tubakuta lauded the initiative, further applauding the participation of young people from across the district.
He emphasised that Kombo East remains “one family and one district and commended the organisers for fostering unity through such meaningful youth-led activities.
The Board Chairman of the Kombo East District Youth Committee, Lamin Jammeh, praised the KEDYC Chairperson, Miss Christine S. Mendy, and her team for organising such an impactful event aimed at uniting the thirty-three communities within the district.
The primary objective of the talent show, he added, is to bring young people together, showcase their diverse abilities, and create networking opportunities.
“We come from different communities and may look in different directions, but events like this connect and unite us,” he said. He added that the activities serve as an avenue for strengthening unity and collaboration among all Kombo East communities.
KEDYC Chairperson, Christine S. Mendy, highlighted that the event goes beyond entertainment, as it promotes spelling proficiency, discipline, public speaking, self-confidence, adult literacy, cultural preservation, and mutual respect among communities.
She thus thanked the event’s sponsors, with special recognition to Abdou Sowe, Member of Parliament for Kombo East, who donated twenty-three thousand dalasis, as well as Honourable Bakary K. Badjie for his support.
Also speaking, Bakary K. Badjie expressed delight to be associated with the event, noting that such programmes are vital for bringing young people together to showcase their talents and culture.
“A human being without culture is incomplete. A good leader must know their history and identity, and events like this help our youth understand where they come from,” he said.
The event was characterised with entertainment, talent display, while also promoting unity and social cohesion.
