The Kanifing Municipal Council will host this year’s NAYCONF, a biannual event which was originally from the youth week that was initiated in the first republic. It later developed to sport activities and other events, which further expanded to a national conference that focuses on current issues affecting society.
NAYCONF 2024 will be the 14th edition. The theme for this year’s event is ‘NAYCONF -Check KM’.
KMC as the host of NAYCONF 2024 also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Youth Council on the day.
In his launch statement, Mayor Bensouda assured Gambians of a successful NAYCONF with style. He laid emphasis on how the paramount platform can be used to address oppressing issues, especially drugs like Kush as well as the high unemployment rate within the municipality.
He said that his municipality being the most youthful is clearly affected by the abuse of Kush. He urged the NAYCONF organising committee to put the fight against Kush centered in their discussions and recommendation.
Elizabeth Kinta Gomez, chairperson for the Local Organising Committee (LOC) gave a detailed overview of NAYCONF 2024 preparations, adding that the event will begin with its pre-preparation stage, then NAYCONF proper and finally post-NAYCONF.
She added that they also have four different activity plans within the program as well as a specific budget to ensure the successful implementation of the event.
“This year, we are hosting NAYCONF as a municipality at the heartbeat of The Gambia. We are more than proud to say that young people within the municipality are ready to take the mantle of leadership,” she said.
